Overview

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo will now be home to 16 Gentoo penguins! Visitors to The Dubai Aquarium can now learn more about these delightful birds.

Originally from Antarctica, the Gentoo can stand up to a metre tall and weigh up to six kilos. They are excellent divers and can remain underwater for up to seven minutes, in which they can dive to depths of almost 200m.

To make the penguins feel at home, their enclosure will keep the air chilled between 2˚C and 4˚C and water between 5˚C and 7˚C. A special lighting system is in place to simulate the lighting cycle in Antarctica. The enclosure dubbed 'Penguin Cove' is designed to keep the birds entertained and even includes a slide for them.

The Penguin Encounter in Penguin Cove will be part of the Aqua Nursery, Explorer package and VIP experiences at The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.

For penguin lovers it is a unique opportunity to get close and personal with these adorable creatures. The trainers were informative and the photographers took excellent pictures. The picture package is pricey but leaves you with a great souvenir.
Bring your own hat and gloves. It is cold in there.

Pingouins are amazing ! The aquarium is useless as we see enough from the mall but the zoo is nice, notably the crocodiles. This is not a “ticket” so you still have to make the queue but there were not a lot of people.
